ANZAC DAY Dawn Service

ANZAC DAY Anzac is an acronym for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. Anzac Day is celebrated on the 25 th of April. This day is special because it is the same day that the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed at Gallipoli in 1915.

Dawn Service The Dawn Service is a major part of the tradition of ANZAC Day and goes back to the military practice of 'standing to' at dawn. Each dawn and dusk, the most favourable times for attack, soldiers were called to 'stand to' and manned their posts in full kit, ready to fight enemy attacks or launch their own.

Dawn Service

The Dawn Service is an important event for me because both of my Great Grand-Fathers fought in the Second World War. My Great Grand-Father on my Grans side of the family died at the Battle of El Alamien. My other Great Grand-Father lived and also went to battle in the Korean War, he was a Squadron Leader in the Australian Air Force.

Dawn Service

Dawn Service When and Where? The Dawn Service commences on the Shrine Forecourt at 6am on the 25 th of April each year.
