Types of Writing and the Writing Process Notes

Narrative to express themselves to tell a story to get to know themselves better

Expository to share information with others to explain something to give directions

Persuasive to persuade others to do or believe something

Descriptive to describe something paint a picture with words

Creative Writing to create literature, poetry, or drama to be creative to say something in a unique way

The Lead is the 1st sentence of your introduction grabs your reader’s attention 3 types anecdote ask a question fact/quote/interesting statement

Thesis Statement ONE sentence that explains your WHOLE paper USUALLY is the last sentence in your introduction Topic + Opinion= Thesis Statement

The Body is made up of 3 or more paragraphs should support your thesis statement each paragraph focuses on 1 supporting fact each will be different

Conclusion has 2 functions restate your thesis statement in different words leave your reader’s with something to think about

Final Thoughts usually is the last sentence of your conclusion leaves readers with something to think about 4 types ask a question stress the importance use a quotation/fact/interesting statement make an appeal for thought or action

Revising changes the content of your writing to make it say what you want use the A.R.M.S. process focus on ideas/content organization voice style
