European Castle architecture and function By Cheyanne, Gracie, and Damon 

Questions 1. what are 2 different materials used to build a castle? 2. what is one of the three names of castles?

What are medieval castles? Medieval castles were used as protection for the lords and king during the wars. They had large walls for protection from there enemy's.

What where castles used for? Castles were built during the wars in the medieval ages. At the beginning they were used for better protection. After the fact they were used more on luxury for lords or kings. This Photo by Unknown author is licensed under CC BY-SA.

Castle defenses Flanking towers Built as part of the curtain wall. Ramparts Steep banks that slowed down attackers. Curtain walls Walls that surrounded castle buildings, Was used as a shield. Flanking towers  Built as part of the curtain wall.

Castle defenses Arrow slit High walls A narrow vertical slit used to fire arrows at enemy attackers. The slit was made in a certain way that defenders were safe from attack. Moats  slowed the enemy down, Made it difficult to tunnel under the castle. High walls  Made it difficult for enemy's to climb over them. Battlements Alowed defenders to atack wile still being protected by a wall.
