After this session you should: Be able to find electronic journal articles using the Oxford University e-Journals service Be able to use the ZETOC alerting service to receive relevant new journal contents pages and new journal articles in your subject.

Using the Oxford University e-Journals service

Oxford University e-Journals uses the SFX system provided by Ex Libris How to use Oxford University e-Journals http://sfx7.exlibrisgroup.com/oxford/az Oxford University e-Journals uses the SFX system provided by Ex Libris The SFX technology is used to provide a link to full texts from databases and other sources where you see this The system also provides an A-Z listing of e-Journals which is very easy to use.

A-Z listing Choice of succinct “Table” and a “Detail View” Can choose to search for words which the title “starts with” or “contains” or “exact” title When you click on the title a menu will open to allow you to specify which issue you require or you can just click on Go to go through to the journal homepage You may be offered a choice of suppliers in which case check the dates offered before making your selection You also have the option of checking print holdings

Zetoc alert Set up Athens password at: http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/athens/

RSS feeds from Zetoc

RSS feeds RSS Really Simple Syndication RSS allows you to subscribe to updates from favourite websites and other e-resources To set up RSS feeds you first need a reader - software that checks RSS feeds and lets you read new articles that have been added to them It is simple to subscribe to a free web reader – e.g. Google Reader, Bloglines, My Yahoo!

RSS feeds You will know RSS is available when you see this logo in a website or database: To set up a feed from a journal to your reader, click on the button A new page containing XML code will open Simply copy the URL from this page into your reader You will now receive the TOC from this journal in your reader whenever a new issue is published

Further help available Email e-resources queries to eresources@ouls.ox.ac.uk Help screens on the resources described are very useful Ask for help from Library staff – we will be pleased to assist - ask at any Library desk. Or contact your subject librarian – you may like to make an appointment for individual assistance – see: http://www.ouls.ox.ac.uk/collections/librarians Sign up for another WISER session if you found this one useful: http://www.ouls.ox.ac.uk/information_skills/ Contact your presenters judy.reading@ouls.ox.ac.uk and katherine.melling@ouls.ox.ac.uk
