L.O. To think about factors that contribute to my identity and the identity of others TLN Identity Pack L2

In the Change Places game, we have been thinking about ourselves or what we call our identity. Did you notice anything you have in common with someone else in our class? Did anyone notice anything different between you and someone else?

I know I’m unique, but what does this actually mean? We could use the word unique to describe every single person in our class (adults and children!). What do you think this word means? I know I’m unique, but what does this actually mean?

- Something that is unique is the only one of its kind. - You can use unique to describe things that you admire because they are very unusual or special.

Look carefully at this front cover Look carefully at this front cover. What do you think this book is about? Can you spot any clues that might help you work this out?

Now that we have read the book, spend 1 minute reflecting on the text Now that we have read the book, spend 1 minute reflecting on the text. You can write or draw anything you think of in this time, this can include any questions you might want to ask.

SKIN AGAIN BY BELL HOOKS The skin I’m in is just a covering. It cannot tell my story. If you want to know who I am you have got to open your heart way wide. The skin I’m in looks good to me . It will let you know one way to trace my identity.

You are going to work in groups of 4 to discuss some questions You are going to work in groups of 4 to discuss some questions. Before we begin, what does good group work look like and sound like? Taking turns so that everyone has the chance to share ideas Listening to and respecting what everyone in the group has to say Everyone making a contribution

What does the author mean by “Skin is just a covering?” How would you describe your skin? Can our skin colour tell a lot about us? What else is important about us?

We are going to share any key points from our small group discussions We are going to share any key points from our small group discussions. What were your thoughts? I think that… In my opinion…

Do you think you can know and understand someone just from looking at their appearance?

How do we let others know who we really are?

What else is important about us? hope and dreams place of birth family pets
