What is inclusion? Inclusion is not a single structure. It is a process by which we acknowledge the rights of all children to be part of their local communities -Micheline Mason, Alliance for Inclusive Education Inclusion is a journey with a clear direction and purpose; equality of opportunity for all children and young people - Council for Disabled Children

What do disabled children and young people say about inclusion? I think inclusion is the chance for disabled and non-disabled people just to get to know each other – whatever situation you are in Not feeling alienated or different If you’re not included you feel sad, lonely and miserable Inclusion helps you have fun! We are all unique and everyone has a different personality and we should all be treated as equal I want to play out in the park, go out with mates, I like to be outside and go swimming

What do disabled children and young people say about inclusion? We want to go where other children go It’s about including everyone. It’s about participation I have learned to not let my disability get in my way – it’s just a part of me and not all of me Give us more freedom to do what we want to do and live our lives how we want to. Listen and be nice I don’t want to feel like I am a nuisance or somebody different. I just want to do everything that everyone else does

Spot the difference!

What do parents say? Examples of good inclusion and practice When it doesn’t go as well and how it makes parents feel? Success criteria – what do parents think are the key criteria that make inclusion work well
