Bellwork Underline the title Quickly scan (don’t read) the article Write 2 to 3 sentences predicting what you believe the article will be about. (5 minutes)

UNRA(A)VEL Underline the Title Now predict the purpose of the piece Run through and number the paragraphs Are you reading the questions? (A)re important words circled/underlined? Venture through the passage Eliminate any incorrect answers not supported by evidence in the passage L et the questions and writing prompt be answered

UNRA(A)VEL WITH A PARTNER quickly discuss your predictions from first 2 steps: Can you connect with your predictions to any previous knowledge? Underline anything important regarding the text.

R: Run through and number the paragraphs UNRA(A)VEL R: Run through and number the paragraphs Number each paragraph 1,2,3 … Then when you locate answers or find text evidence to support your writing, you can write the paragraph number next to the questions quickly.

UNRA(A)VEL A: Are you reading the questions/writing prompt? Pre-read each question and focus on important information. Remember to use your numbered paragraphs to help locate answers.

UNRA(A)VEL A: Are important words circled/underlined? Circle or underline important words. Use these important words to help you locate information quickly, and stay focused on the reading.

V: Venture through the passage UNRA(A)VEL V: Venture through the passage Read the assigned passage. Be sure to annotate! This will help with written response.

UNRA(A)VEL E: Eliminate any incorrect answers not supported by evidence in the passage. Eliminate any answers choices not supported by evidence giving you less answer choices and making it easier to locate the correct answer. Find and underline text evidence before writing responses to questions.

L: Let the questions be answered! UNRA(A)VEL L: Let the questions be answered! Answer the discussion questions to the passage utilizing the UNRA(A)VEL steps.

Go through the UNRA(A)VEL strategy and use it to help you answer the questions. Be sure to cite your evidence for each answer!

Exit Ticket On your paper, List two unRA(a)vel strategies that helped you read the passage and answer the questions. Turn in to your teacher before you leave today!! (5 minutes)
