Katrina Hein & Paul Dunay Golgi Apparatus Katrina Hein & Paul Dunay
The Golgi apparatus is located in both plant and animal cells.
Function: Sort proteins and lipids received from the ER Adds molecules or chops tiny pieces off the ends (modifies) Sort and package these molecules into vesicles for transport to other parts of the cell or secretion from the cell
Made up of a series of membrane-covered sacs called cisternae. A complex network of tubules and vesicles is located at the edges of the cisternae. The cis face is found near the endoplasmic reticulum . The trans face is located more towards the plasma membrane . Secretion vesicles are formed around the molecules.
Alzheimer’s Disease The fragmentation of the Golgi apparatus The falling apart of the Golgi can cause impairments in the axons and presynaptic terminals of a nerve
