What is the purpose of the following businesses? =5

What is the purpose of the following businesses? For each of the businesses, now tell me if you think they: Provide goods Provide services Or both

Learning Objectives UNIT TITLE: Unit 1: Business Purposes LESSON TITLE: Why do businesses exist? CRITERIA: P1/M1 COMPETENCY FOCUS: ICT Skills (L6): You will develop your skills in using ICT applications during the production of your coursework. Learning Objectives By the end of the lesson, you should be able to… LO1) Define the term ‘purpose’ (Gui) LO2) Describe the purpose of 4 different businesses in terms of why they exist (Gui-Reg) (P1) LO3) Developing your ICT skills, compare the ownership and purpose of two different businesses (Reg-Str) (M1).

Scenario You are a journalist for the Express & Star newspaper based in Sandwell. The newspaper is celebrating 100years of local industry in the Black Country and has asked you to develop a supplementary magazine to distribute alongside the newspaper.

P1 Coursework Task Before you are able to start producing your magazine, you will need to conduct background research on the different companies found in the local area and their purpose. You will then present this information to your line manager who is not from the area. Using Microsoft PowerPoint, with a maximum of four slides (one slide per organisation), produce a presentation that includes the name of the organisation, the size of the organisation (small/medium/large), what sector they operate in (private/public), what products or services they provide and what the organisation exists to do (aim/purpose). The four organisations you have chosen are Job Centre, EasyJet, BMW and Oxfam. Clearly this requires a PowerPoint presentation as the outcome. The important thing to remember is that you need to describe the organisations in terms of their purpose above all else.

Keyword Comprehension In the back of your exercise books, write down the meanings of the following keywords: Purpose Ownership Goods Charity Voluntary Sector Profit
