‘The values, attitudes and beliefs of the people working in an organisation that control the way they interact with each other and with external stakeholders.’ Influences on organisational culture: Mission and vision statements Senior staff The organisation’s ethical code of conduct Attitudes to CSR How management treat subordinates

4 Types of Organisational Culture
Power Culture - Autocratic leadership -Power given to a few 2) Role Culture -Each member of staff has a clearly defined role and job title 3) Task Culture -Based on cooperation and teamwork to solve a particular task. Associated with matrix structure.

4) Person Culture -Individuals are given the freedom to express themselves, the most creative type of culture. - Less emphasis on teamwork but more on working as an individual to complete a task. - Less structured working environment

5) Entrepreneurial Culture - Success is rewarded and failure is not criticised - Risk taking is encouraged - Found in flexible organisational structures - Motivation is high among people who enjoy a challenge and being innovative

7 Consequences of Culture Clashes
Poor motivation/morale Less faith in management leading to job insecurity Declining profits High staff turnover Lower market share Open to takeovers/mergers
