Local Authority Duty The Local Authority has a duty to provide a service which will identify and support young carers to reduce their caring role, we do this by offering a statutory Young Carer assessment which would include a statutory needs assessment for the “Cared For” person Joint Protocol has been developed by the Children’s and Adults Social Care alongside the Carers Federation-Action for Young Carers service. “Think Family” (see link). Improved collaboration work-Explore Families/Action for Young Carers/Adults and Children’s Services 2016-17 number of Young Carers assessments, Adults in the Local Authority carried out were 18, so far 2017-18 number 13. Number AYC carried on behalf of Local Authority 16/17 47, so far in 17/18 number 13. Number of cared for assessments by Adults with a young carer in household 17/18 9 so far 2017 Children’s services undertook 4500 assessments and only 2% had identified a Young Carer Setting out our duty Protocol which has senior leadership sign off for Nottingham City Council has improved working across services Need to add the links

Outcomes and responsibilities Escalation – if we are concerned about the safety or welfare of a young carer or cared for person. Safeguarding responsibility of all agencies. Working together to ensure carers rights are addressed and appropriate team assesses Steering group meeting twice a year Reporting to Children’s Partnership Board Making a referral Steering group used to meet much more frequently, moved to quarterly and now twice a year to address what is working well, what we are worried about and any actions we need to take We reported to the Children’s Partnership Board on the progress being made and Scrutiny Committee where there is challenge about how partners are identifying young carers and referring to services Making a referral add link to end of slide
