Four Steps in developing your OV-5 Step 1 – Identify the Product’s Timescale Decide on the timescale this product is expected to represent (as-is, to-be, transitional) Multiple timescales are often needed for each product; a separate OV-5 should be produced for each timescale that is needed

Step 2 - Identify Applicable Activities Review the information exchange activities (producing and consuming) documented in the Operational Information Exchange Matrix (OV-3) and determine those that are relevant to the scope of the Activity Model Review the external architecture links documented in the Overview and Summary Information (CV-1) product and determine those that are applicable This task is helpful in determining the functional scope and boundaries of the Activity Model, as well as in identifying possible external interface requirements

Step 3 – Analyse Activities Conduct activity modeling sessions with subject matter experts to determine the composition and sequence of individual activities making up each activity model Critically analyse the activities to ensure that the activity model is complete and that the diagrams and text description are consistent

Step 4 - Illustrate Activity Model Graphically depict the components of each activity model Two templates are provided, following this slide First template is an Activity Diagram showing activity nodes connected by information flow arrows Diagram is typically used where activities are sequential Second template is an Activity Hierarchy showing activities depicted in a tree structure Hierarchy charts are typically used where activities are concurrent but dependent You may use either or both depending on the nature of the various activities

OV- 5 Activity Diagram Template Request for information Customer Agencies Until Task Completed Plan Intelligence collection #1 Disseminate orders #2 IT IT Analyse information #7 Disseminate information #8 Conduct Intelligence Collection tasks #4 Elements deploy to allocated areas #3 AND AND Re-deploy as directed #6 Pass information during tasking #5 Spare parts – copy and amend as needed OR Spare Box
