Reviewing Course Outlines for C-ID Designation Training for Faculty Reviewers

Resources about the Process Review the C-ID Norming and Training Resource for Course Outline of Record (COR) Primary Reviewers and Regular Faculty Reviewers document. This document was attached to the email confirming this training. Become familiar with your discipline’s approved descriptors. These are the documents against which you will be comparing submitted CORs. It is recommended you download these descriptors to your desktop or print a set for your convenience during the review process. Descriptors are available at http://c-id.net/descriptors

Responsibilities Faculty Discipline Review Groups (FDRGs) – Responsible for Descriptor and Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) Development Course Outline of Record Evaluators (COREs) – Review Courses Submitted for C-ID Designation Primary Reviewer Responsibilities Assign courses, manage assignments, monitor timelines, compile summaries, as well as serve as the tie breaker if necessary Faculty Reviewer Responsibilities Keep the review process holistic and focused on the descriptor and the COR. Provide clear and adequate feedback Notify the Primary Reviewer if review timeline cannot be accomplished --See examples in Norming document on feedback --See job descriptions in Norming document

Assignment of Courses One CCC faculty member and one CSU faculty member will be assigned to each course based on individual faculty expertise. Reviewers should indicate to C-ID staff all descriptors they can address in the review process. Primary Reviewer will make assignments based on the descriptors selected.

Technology User ID and Password PC or Mac Compatible If you are unsure of your username and password, we can provide this information to you PC or Mac Compatible Any internet browser will work Access the system from http://www.c-id.net/

Receiving Course Assignments Weekly emails will be sent from the C-ID website when courses are assigned to you. Once you receive a message, you can log into the C-ID website to see your course assignments and begin reviewing courses. Automated messages only go out once a week. Reviewers are encouraged to check back at least once a week to see if they have courses assigned. CORs should be reviewed within four weeks. The date is listed on your course assignment list (covered later) and you will receive a weekly email reminder of courses. If you are no longer able to participate in the review process, or will be unavailable for any length of time which will make it impossible for you to meet your review deadlines, please immediately notify both your Primary Reviewer and C-ID staff (info@c-id.net).

Begin a Course Review (Reviewer Screen) Once you sign in, click on your username to access your queue.

Review your Assigned Courses and Begin the Review Process After clicking on the “Active Courses” link, a new page will open with a list of course outlines you’ve been assigned to review. See sample list to the right Filtering and sorting functions Example of Reviewer Screen – Notice filtering and sorting functions. Assigned – you still need to do your individual review. ↑ Click on the blue course title to go to the page where you enter your feedback and comments on the course (Evaluation Form)

Problems with downloading CoR If you encounter a problem with accessing the COR, what do you do: Email us and let us know so we can correct the problem. We will notify you when the COR has been provided and the course is again ready for review. The Primary Reviewer will be notified you are unable to review the course.

Course Evaluation Form You will change the drop down menu to yes or no for each statement. If you select no, you must include a comment for each text box.

Course Evaluation Form The Articulation Officer may enter comments related to the prerequisite listed on the COR. The Articulation Officer may also enter comments related to textbooks on the COR when they submit or resubmit a course if there is updated textbook information not included on the submitted COR. This is where you might find that newer textbooks are being used than are reflected on the COR. Information in this area should be taken into consideration during your review of textbook appropriateness.

Course Evaluation Form Once you make all your comments, you will need to select an overall recommendation. Your choices are: Approved, Conditionally Approved, or Not Approved. Please see the C-ID Norming and Training Document for descriptions of each of these (p. 11). If you select Conditionally Approved or Not Approved, you must include a final comment.

Course Evaluation Form Overall recommendation. Final Comment. Approved – the review process is complete, the COR met the requirements of the C-ID descriptor, and the course was awarded the requested C-ID designation. Conditionally Approved – the reviewers are temporarily done with the review; the submitted COR aligned with some, but not all, areas of the C-ID descriptor. The course was close to receiving the requested designation, but is missing important elements. The course must be resubmitted within one year with the requested modifications in order to be awarded the requested C-ID designation. Not Approved – the reviewers have temporarily completed the review process and the course was not awarded the requested C-ID designation. The course has significant and fundamental variations from the C-ID descriptor that prevent it from receiving the requested C-ID designation. The course must be resubmitted within one year with the requested significant/fundamental modifications in order to be awarded the requested C-ID designation. You can then save your input and come back later or check the box and submit.

Course Evaluation Form After making an overall recommendation and making a final comment when necessary, you can either save the record and return or submit the review. Your submission will go to the Primary Reviewer. Once the Primary Reviewer is finished, the course will either go public or back to the Articulation Officer.

Conditionally or Not Approved If a course has been conditionally approved or not approved, it will be sent back to the submitting Articulation Officer who then has up to a year and a half to resubmit a revised COR, based on the resubmission due dates of February 1 and September 1. When an Articulation Officer resubmits a course where you were the original reviewer, it will automatically return to your list. You would then only be able to review the areas that needed correction and verify concerns have been addressed. Your previous comments will be visible. You would follow the same process as you initially did in the first review. You will only be allowed to type in areas of the evaluation form which correspond to the areas found lacking on the original CoR.

Examples for Evaluation Form Review the Norming and Training Resource Document on pages 7 – 11 for more information on comparing the CORs against the descriptors and samples of constructive comments.

Thank you! Thank you for your work as a C-ID faculty course reviewer! We appreciate your feedback and dedication. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact C-ID staff at support@c-id.net or (916) 445-4753.
