Ensuring high coverage with effective interventions is a must for achieving MDGs Child health manager is expected to deliver in a changing and complex environment – decentralization, multiple players, new funding sources: GFATM, PRSP, SWAP Being a doctor or a nurse with technical knowledge alone is not enough. Additional skills for advocacy, negotiation, proposal development, presentation, resource mobilization and management are equally important. There is more and more recognition of the contributions of all child health-related programmes to the success of child health goals with effective coordination and linkages across the continua of care

15-18 Nov 2011Regional CH PM Meeting, Nepal10 Participants Feedback Found all the modules appropriate and relevant to the needs of programme managers at national and sub-national levels Described the course as: –very interesting –logical and useful –a very systematic process for planning Participants found indicators, setting targets, supervision and monitoring progress especially relevant Appreciated the opportunities to practice some of the essential skills during the course, particularly skills related to the –preparation of PowerPoint presentations on advocacy and –developing strategic partnership –systematic method of reviewing implementation status –developing an implementation plan –use of local data for planning were highly appreciated. The course was seen as a good opportunity to build capacity towards improving child health planning and management

Bangladesh: Nov 2010 The guidelines for "Managing Programmes to Improve Child Health" developed by WHO/CAH were adapted to include maternal health Coverage indicators for all key MNH intervention packages ANC / SBA / PNC / EmOC as well as FP need to be included in the existing modules along with illustrations and exercises Participants suggested multiple methods like including group reading, short presentations and interactions as appropriate

Sri Lanka: Dec 2010 Nepal MoH nominees participated Participants found indicators, setting targets, supervision and monitoring progress especially relevant. They also appreciated the opportunities to practice some of the essential skills during the course like target setting, reordering medicines. The systematic method of reviewing implementation status and developing an implementation plan, and use of local data for planning were highly appreciated. Need expressed to change example and exercises related to IMCI Suggestions were made to integrate maternal health in the programme management guidelines.
