The Great Gatsby & F. Scott Fitzgerald Introduction Activities

Characterization List 3 or 4 of the most memorable characters you’re read or watched in novels or films. Now, think about and discuss why those characters are so memorable. What makes a character intriguing, stand out compared to so many others you’ve read/watched.

Pre-Reading Issues On that same sheet of paper, either agree or disagree with the following statements and then briefly (one or two sentences) defend your views. 1) When a person comes by wealth illegally, he or she is very likely to somehow pay for it in the end.

Pre-Reading Issues 2) People who live in big cities in America tend to be sophisticated, while people who live in small towns are much more simple and innocent (as compared to ‘city people’). 3) It is no longer possible to attain the American Dream (i.e. the ability of achieve success even if you’re not born into wealth) without compromising your morals and ethics.

Pre-Reading Issues 4) If you truly love another person long enough, you will eventually have a life together. 5) There is no difference between a family that has been wealthy for generations and one which was relatively poor until just recently coming into a lot of money.
