GLE GLE 0707.3.1 Distinguish between the basic features of photosynthesis and respiration.

Photosynthesis Grade 7 Science

What is photosynthesis? Process plants use to make their own food Some plants cells contain chlorophyll Chlorophyll (green color) makes photosynthesis possible It occurs in the chloroplast

The chlorophyll absorbs the sunlight.

The sunlight is combined with water, Carbon Dioxide and nutrients from the soil.

6CO2 + 12H2O + light energy   C6H12O6 + 6O2 The chlorophyll processes the ingredients and makes sugar (plant food) and oxygen. Sugar + Air O2

Equation for Photosynthesis 6CO2 + 6H2O + Sunlight  C6H12O6 + 6O2 Reactants  Products

Reactants Reactants are what you start with in a chemical reaction. These are the substances that enter into a chemical reaction.

Products Products are what you end with in a chemical reaction. Products are substances which form as a result of a chemical reaction.

Plants and animals need each other to survive.

Animals including humans make the CO2 (carbon dioxide) plants need Animals including humans make the CO2 (carbon dioxide) plants need. They (the plants) make the O2 (oxygen) and food we need.

Cellular Respiration The process by which cells use oxygen to produce energy from food. It occurs inside the Mitochondria

Cellular Respiration Equation C6H12O6 + 6O2  6CO2 +6H2O + Energy (ATP) Reactants  Products

Science Closure 2/19/18 What does a plant need to make sugar through photosynthesis? soil, water, and oxygen carbon dioxide, sunlight, and soil C. oxygen, sunlight, and soil D. sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide

Science Closure 2/19/18 What are the reactants for photosynthesis? 2. What are the products of photosynthesis? 3. What organelle does photosynthesis take place in?

Closure What part of a plant can perform photosynthesis? A. only the leaves B. only the stem C. only the roots D. any cell with chlorophyll
