https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Grassland_at_etosha.jpg Precipitation Range In tropical savannas, precipitation ranges from 10-30 inches a year, most of this occurring in the summer months. Though summers experience a fairly large amount of precipitation, winters are often more dry. This is not problematic due to the drought-resistant nature of the savanna’s plant life. Soil Characteristics Soil varies among the world’s different savannas. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tdouglaspainting/4205214082/ Soil varies among the world’s different savannas. However, laterization is typically the main soil- forming process. Low fertility oxisols are also common in tropical savannas. Moreover, shrubs and trees are typically sparse, isolated, and very resistant to the elements. Because a tropical savanna's winter season is typically very dry, most of its plants have adapted to be drought- resistant, fire-resistant, and browse-resistant. For example, African savannas have one of the largest diversities of hoofed mammals in the world, perfect for the perennial grass' availability for grazing. However, all savannas typically have termites, which are key to the unique soil-forming processes of the savanna. Some animals, like the elephant, have special adaptations to allow them to access water in the dry seasons to avoid migration. Elephants accomplish this by tearing open the trunks of baobab trees where water is stored. Other mammals have adapted to have long legs suitable for long periods of travel during migration. Locations Some examples of tropical savannas are: Kano, Nigeria https://pxhere.com/en/photo/712013 Locations Tropical savannas are typically located on the edges of tropical rainforests. Some examples of tropical savannas are: Kano, Nigeria Nairobi, Kenya Belize Honduras The Ilanos The Everglades

Special Characteristics and Sensitivities http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=grasslands Special Characteristics and Sensitivities Some large animals have the ability to turn a forest into a savanna by disrupting tree development and growth. Almost half of Africa is considered to be a savanna. Savannas are not suitable for farming. Savannas have the largest diversity of herbivorous animals.
