4 Sahara (1) Covers most of Northern Africa Hot and dry all year
Very few plants and animals

5 Sahara (2) Little human activity found here due to the limited access to water People only work in mining operations Travel is almost impossible across the region

6 Sahel (1) Narrow region found directly south of the Sahara
Semiarid – hot summers and cooler winters Some grasses, trees, and animals

7 Sahel (2) Nomads are the main type of people who live here due to the small amount of water Small amounts of farming – droughts can cause major problems Travel is difficult

8 Savanna (1) Found in most regions of Central Africa
Warm all year with wet and dry seasons Some grasses, trees, and animals

9 Savanna (2) More Africans are found here because of the increased water supply ( although they are mostly in coastal areas or near fresh bodies of water) Many types of economic activity Travel is easier that other places
