ALLEGORY An allegory is a narrative work with two levels of meaning: the literal (obvious), and the symbolic. All (or most) of the characters, settings, and events in an allegory are symbols that stand for ideas beyond themselves. The overall purpose of an allegory is to teach a moral lesson.

In your groups Go through the text and identify the Allegory. What symbols are used throughout the text? What is the moral or lesson that the story is teaching?
