Prospero, the Prince, suggests financial prosperity. He exploits his wealth and ignores the intrusion of the Red Death in his kingdom by locking him, and his friends, up in his lavishly adorned castle. “It was a voluptuous scene, that masquerade.” (Line 27) “The abbey was amply provisioned. With such provisions the courtiers might bid defiance to contagion. “ (Line 16) “The external world could take care of itself” (Line 19)
