FIRE SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH: FIREWORKS SAFETY The use, storage or possession of fireworks on Grand Forks AFB and in privatized housing are not authorized. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is opposed to consumer use of fireworks, including sparklers and firecrackers. Fireworks cause an average of 18,500 fires and 11,000 injuries per year. Sparklers burn at a temperature of 1200 degrees and in 2016, caused 22% of firework injuries. If you want to see fireworks, go to a public show put on by experts. Contact the Fire Prevention office at 747-4174/4442 for info or questions. Sources: nfpa.org/education and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission S One Grand Forks Air Force Base… Defending Freedom!
