What could of damaged this statue in Germany? 1908 2018

What is Acid Rain? Acid rain is when factories’ smoke or vehicles’ exhaust containing sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides go up into the atmosphere and come back down to earth in the form of harmful precipitation (rain or snow)

Illustration of how acid rain occurs

Causes of Acid Rain in Germany Smoke from factories and power plants Coal-burning

Causes of Acid Rain in Germany Automobile emissions (exhaust)

Causes of Acid Rain in Germany Wind carries air pollution from Western Europe (France and the United Kingdom) to Germany

Effects of Acid Rain in Germany Damage to vegetation (plants) Damage to lakes, rivers and streams Rhine and Danube River

Effects of Acid Rain in Germany Contamination of drinking water Damage to buildings and monuments

Solutions to Germany’s Acid Rain problem Factories switching to cleaner fuels Decrease the use of fossil fuels like coal and oil Reducing automobile emissions Developing new types of energy like wind turbines and solar energy

Frame-Write in complete sentences So What? What is this thinking map about? So Why? Why it important to know about Acid Rain? Frame- Where did I get this information for this thinking map?
