Seniors HUB Movement Presented by Sallenna Moutis – Coordinator Social Inclusion Monash Council Aged and Community Care

Current Situation In February 2016 a number of Senior Citizen Groups were at critical point and experiencing difficulty in maintaining incorporation. Clayton Seniors Citizens Mulgrave Senior Citizens Oakleigh Senior Citizens

Opportunity for Council What is Councils role? How can we work together? Where is the future heading? Are these groups sustainable? Current model OR alternative model How can we support these groups?

The HUB Can council support these groups to exist and expand with Council support? Solution: - Seniors Hub NO longer need to be an incorporated club; No more minutes, AGM, applying for Council grants Focus on the ‘fun stuff’ – leave the administration, planning and resourcing up to Council

The Seniors HUB Movement As a result, Council can: Support the group support with staffing, culturally vibrant community meal and running activities in the HUB and; Support members if they require additional Support: transport; Additional in the home support if requested (refer to My Aged Care and provide support with the process)

Additional Benefits Existing Council PAG groups Transition the smaller existing PAG groups into the HUB space Advertise and build the HUB’s into a vibrant community space: Local advertising (current HACC Clients); New clients via MAC Potential commercial opportunity post 2019

Challenges Change Resources Smaller PAG groups & existing Seniors group members are resistant to change Ongoing trust and relationship building Resources All these changes to be implemented within existing resources
