Environmental Effects of Radiation

Purpose: To see the effects of seed irradiation on germination and plant growth.

Irradiation may prove to be detrimental to the seeds. Lack of germination, stunted growth the stem and overall seedling length, loss of chlorophyll, change in color. Irradiation my prove to be beneficial to the seeds. Resistance to disease, drought, abnormal weather, increase growth rate

Investigation Question What effect does___________have on_______? What effect does increasing levels of radiation have on germination and seedling growth of radish seeds?

Design Experiment Remember to only change one variable!

Data Collection Levels of Radiation (Rads) Length of Seedling (mm) Length of Stem(mm) Number of plants germinated Other observations Control 50,000 100,000 150,000

Set up Label petri dish Fold one paper towel into fourths Moisten paper towel Place into petri dish and cut to fit Add seeds and place lid on top.
