What is CTE? CTE encompasses a wide range of activities intended to simultaneously provide students with skills demanded in the labor market while preparing them for post-secondary degrees in technical fields. Activities include not only specific career-oriented classes, but also internships, apprenticeships and in-school programs designed to foster work readiness. Six Clusters Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources Arts, Information & Communications Business & Management Health Sciences Human Resources Industrial & Engineering Systems Sequence of courses Aligned to industry standards at the secondary and post-secondary level Integrate technical and career skill proficiencies with academic content Lead to occupations in high demand, high wage career areas

What does a CTE Regional Coordinator do?

5 Elements of a CTE Program of Study Accountability & Evaluation CTE Data reported and used for planning Industry Advisory Committee Technical Skill Assessment Student Support Services Comprehensive Guidance & Counseling Robust Career Related Learning Experiences Access & Equity Standards & Content Industry Standards Integrated Academic Content Alignment & Articulation Secondary to Postsecondary alignment Dual Credit whenever possible Teacher Professional Development

CTE Teacher Licensure Teachers in a CTE Program of Study must have a CTE License Alternative Pathway to CTE License – Industry professionals can teach in a CTE program while completing a 3 year Professional Development Plan as directed by an Instructor Appraisal Committee – must include 18 credits of teacher prep courses Traditionally licensed teachers – must demonstrate 1800 hours of industry experience in the career area

Technical Skill Assessment (TSA) CTE Programs of Study are required to have a Technical Skill Assessment (TSA) – used as a program evaluation to ensure that students gain the industry skills that they should Valid and reliable technical skill measurements aligned with industry-validated standards CTE Concentrators that complete the required courses in a state-approved CTE Program must be assessed with a technical skill assessment
