Dealing With Our Sin

Sin is a universal problem

Ecclesiastes 7: 20 – Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins. Romans 3: 10 – as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one; Romans 3: 23 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Sin separates men from God. Isaiah 59: 1-2 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short That it cannot save; Nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

Separation from God is called “spiritual death.” Romans 6: 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“ALL” includes Christians … includes YOU. What’s the worst sin YOU ever committed ?

We can learn a lot about dealing with sin by studying the life of David. Romans 15: 4 – For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction,

Acts 13: 22 After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.’

Let us learn some lessons from how a righteous man addresses his sins.

I. There is no sin that you are incapable of committing.

God has cautioned us that we must never feel that we are above sin. I Corinthians 10: 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.

Romans 12: 3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

So long as one is in this body he cannot get out of Satan’s reach So long as one is in this body he cannot get out of Satan’s reach. You will be tempted.

Ephesians 2: 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

Galatians 5:16-17 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

Even devoted people do deplorable sins.. Psalms 27: 4 One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple. Even devoted people do deplorable sins..

II. One cannot hide his sin from God.

Proverbs 28: 13 He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. Numbers 32: 23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.

Joshua 7: 11 Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. And they have even taken some of the things under the ban and have both stolen and deceived. Moreover, they have also put them among their own things.

Matthew 12: 36 But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. II Corinthians 5: 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

God knows you did it and why. I Corinthians 4: 5 Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts; and then each man’s praise will come to him from God. God knows you did it and why.

III. God will forgive any sin if a Christian will confess it and humbly repent.

Some say, “I have done such horrible things that God could never forgive me.”

2 Samuel 12: 13 Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has taken away your sin; you shall not die.   I John 1: 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Repentance is a prerequisite to forgiveness Acts 3: 19 – Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; II Corinthians 7: 10 – For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death. ( Sorry he got caught )

Psalms 51: 1-4 Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against You, You only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when You speak and blameless when You judge.

“I How do we respond when we are caught in sin ?” Try to hide it – Make excuses – Regretful

IV. Though God forgives the guilt of sin He does not remove the consequences.

We must never think that we will not suffer the consequences for our sins. Genesis 9: 6 Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed.

Though David was forgiven his sins brought about terrible consequences.

II Samuel 12: 13 – Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has taken away your sin; you shall not die.   II Samuel 12:10 – ‘Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

David’s consequences were fourfold that of his sins. David killed one man. 1. II Sam. 12: 18 .. Child of Bathsheba died. 2. II Sam. 12: 18 .. Absalom murdered Amnon. 3. II Sam. 12: 18 .. Absalom killed by Gen. Joab. 4. I Kgs. 2: 24-25 .. Solomon killed Adonijah.

David’s life illustrates the eternal principle of sowing and reaping. Galatians 6: 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.

Even the most righteous person can be ensnared by the devil. YOU will sin.

Never try to hide your sin from God. He knows everything you do and why you do it.

There is no sin too terrible for God to forgive if one will repent and confess it to God.

When He forgives, God removes the guilt of sin, but not the consequences.

Come into His grace and receive His forgiveness.

In remembrance Of His sacrifice
