1.Background The LETTER OF INTEREST on establishing the digital LIN CHAO GEOMUSEM was signed by Presidents of IGU, CODATA and Geographical Society of China, on Oct. 30, 2011 in Beijing, China

Background The GEOMUSEUM named LIN Chao, a giant geographer, who led China into IGU in 1949, by IGU-CODATA-GSC. The GEOMUSEUM focuses on the GEO knowledge dissemination by historical collections and records, specifically the world wide post stamps.

More than 200 world wide contributors donated their personal/family items to the collection.

Why need a GEOMUSEUM? IGY (1957-1958): The first and the most ambitious international program in the human history on its environment. Artificial Satellites, WDC, Antarctic Treaty, … GEO following ….

GEO is a multiple dimension event, it is not only earth observation, not only earth science and technology, not only decision making, not only business, but GEO CULTURE. GEO CULTURE is not only for our generation, but our children, we should leave GEO CULTURE heritages to our children – GEOMUSEUM.

What activities held during the last five years? (1) Collecting MUSEUM items on history of IGU, IPY, Satellites, geobio-diversity, regional geography, scientists, international cooperation programs, …, thousands of items had been archived, which cover more than 100 years (1889), more than 100 counties in all of the continents. 1924,UK 1932, Russia 1910, Tibet, China 1898,Norway 1893,China 1925, Egypt
