2 Director’s Report to BRDI Action items from last meeting: All completed except - - 2-pager for a study or essay on the value proposition to the nation for scientific data. - 2-pager for a symposium/workshop or study on data quality evaluation criteria and methods.

3 Director’s Report to BRDI Recent and ongoing Board projects, since last December - Appointment of new Board member, Alexa McCray, Harvard Medical School (IOM) - Symposium and Workshop on the Future of Scientific Knowledge Discovery in the Open Networked Environment (March 2011) and initiation of the young scientist program. - International Symposium on The Case for International Sharing of Scientific Data: A Focus on Developing Countries, with BISO and ICSU (April 2011). - Launch of the project on Developing Data Attribution and Citation Practices and Standards, with CODATA-ICSTI Task Group (first Symposium and Workshop, August 2011).

4 Director’s Report to BRDI Recent and ongoing Board projects (continued) - 5 th US-China Roundtable and workshop in Beijing and Lijiang (October 2011) - Communications and Outreach strategy (draft plan online) - 5 th BRDI meeting and Crowdsourcing Symposium - Planned and future Board projects (next Session J)

5 Director’s Report to BRDI Action items from this morning’s CODATA session: - BRDI should respond to the international CODATA letter about the young scientists activities at BRDI/US CODATA. - US CODATA should consider supporting the data management training workshop for developing country participants in Beijing in 2012, by providing experts or information resources, or seeking funding. A US CODATA member of the international steering committee for the project is requested. The emphasis should be on continuity of training over the long term, training the trainers, and the use of existing training resources. - Contact the Israeli committee to match up their interests with US experts in the geriatric data area, especially the NIA data at ICPSR at University of Michigan.

6 Director’s Report to BRDI Action items from this morning’s CODATA session: - The US CODATA will support a workshop in conjunction with the 5 th bilateral Roundtable, on improving scientific data sharing organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in October 2011. -BRDI/US CODATA members should provide comments to Paul Uhlir regarding the US CODATA – World Data System Forum proposal. -BRDI/US CODATA members are invited to send comments to Paul Uhlir on the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) draft paper on Legal Options for the Exchange of Data through the GEOSS Data- CORE, by June 18.
