THE RESULTS OF STEWARDSHIP Lesson 13 for 31 March 2018

The immediate purpose of stewardship is to fulfill God’s mission and redeem the world. God wants to make stewardship a reality in our lives. It will bring: Godliness Contentment Trust Influence Compliments

GODLINESS “But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly; the Lord will hear when I call to Him.” (Psalm 4:3) Godliness is to deeply love God and our neighbor and to show it in our daily tasks. Paul warned us, there will be people “having a form of godliness but denying its power” in the End Time (2 Timothy 3:5) We learn from the example of Job that a godly life flows from a sanctified person. It doesn’t depend on external circumstances. Stewardship is revealed in a godly life. We show our faith by either doing or not doing certain things.

CONTENTMENT “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13:5) Paul told us that “godliness with contentment is great gain.” (1 Timothy 6:6) A godly life is not synonymous of riches. Nevertheless, a godly life with contentment is a great source of spiritual blessings. Being content with what we have is to rest on the Most High arms and trust Him fully. Then we live peacefully and calmly. God wants joyful stewards: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4 NIV)

TRUST “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5) God’s stewards must let Him make the decisions. We must trust His divine wisdom and not our own. Trust and faithfulness come together. We show our trust in God when we walk by faith and obey God at all times. When we need to make a decision, we bring it to God in prayer. He guides us to choose the best option, or the one that will be beneficial for others and for our eternal life. We must learn to trust God, as the apostles did. They put all their trust in Him and received spiritual riches.

INFLUENCE “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) Our stewardship is on display in front of our families, our communities, the world, and the universe (1 Corinthians 4:9) We can influence the minsd and hearts of those around us by the way we live our faith. The Bible advises, “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind.” (Titus 2:7 NLT) We are the light of the world because the Light is shown through our lives (John 8:12). If we fully surrender to God and do the work He has prepared for us, we’ll be a good influence on others (Ephesians 2:10)

COMPLIMENTS “His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’” (Matthew 25:21) What joy it’ll be to hear those words from Jesus when He comes back! This life is just the entrance hall to eternal life. We are pilgrims here as we learn to serve our Lord better every day. We have no merit to show when He comes back (Luke 17:10) Those faithful stewards who have reflected Jesus in their lives ‘will receive the crown. Not by our own merits, but by His: “For by grace you have been saved through faith” (Ephesians 2:8)

“In order to be happy, we must strive to attain to that character which Christ exhibited. One marked peculiarity of Christ was His self-denial and benevolence. He came not to seek His own. He went about doing good, and this was His meat and drink. We may, by following the example of the Saviour, be in holy communion with Him, and by daily seeking to imitate His character and follow His example, we shall be a blessing to the world and shall secure for ourselves contentment here and an eternal reward hereafter.” E.G.W. (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, cp. 20, p. 227)
