Presentation transcript:

Brooder transportation Brooders are collected from ponds or natural waters They have to be transported to the hatcheries Transportation leads to stress to the brooders Loss due to stress in transportation are, Loss of strength Loss of appetite and no feeding Loss of eggs in the case of berried Reduction in reproductive potential due to energy loss

Handling of brooders during transport Careful handling is needed for the safety of the brooders. Handling tips: Acclimatize brooders to the transporting condition Starve them for the protection of water quality If necessary reduce temperature to reduce metabolic activities Check the health before packing

Safety in the transport Oxygenated packing will be more effective in saving the brooders from death due to low oxygen Appropriate stocking of brooders in the packet is necessary No ammonia accumulation in the water No injuries to the brooders before transportation. Repack if duration is more than the accepted time

Quarantine Brooders are to be quarantined soon after reaching the hatchery. Dip treatment in 20 ppm Formalin or Copper Sulphate is necessary Isolation for a period of 24 hours is recommended Observation for the disease outbreak
