Lake Burning with Fire and Brimstone

“Its streams shall be turned into pitch, and its dust into brimstone; Its land shall become burning pitch. It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; no one shall pass through it forever and ever.” Isaiah 34:9,10

“Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.” Revelation 19:20

Brimstone (THEON) – “originally denoted fire from heaven” Genesis 19: 24, 28 “Then Jehovah rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of heaven.” Brimstone (THEON) – “originally denoted fire from heaven” “and he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the Plain, and beheld, and lo, the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace” “. . . Lake of Fire and Brimstone The Second Death (Revelation 20:14, 21:8) “The first death pertained to the physical life and death; the second pertained to the end of each. Death and Hades and the wicked, those whose names were not written in the book of life, existence came to an end in the lake of fire” (Homer Hailey, God’s Judgments and Punishments . . . P. 178) Physical death and place of departed spirits end because of resurrection – not extinction in Hell of soul and body united (Matthew 10:28) and salted or preserved with fire. (Mark 9:49)

Smoke of Their Torment “ Drink of the wine of the wrath of God.” . . (Revelation 14:10) “Smoke of their torment goeth up for ever and ever.” (Revelation 14:11] “While His wrath burned like fire (Psalm 89:46) a smoke went up from His nostrils (Psalm 18:8). This is probably the ‘smoke of their torment’” (p. 174, God’s Judgments and Punishments. . . ) The smoke of their torment, not the smoke from their tormentor!

Tormented forever – Everlasting Punishment “Tormented day and night for ever and ever” (Revelation 20:10) Hailey: “None others are included” but Devil, Beast, False prophet (God’s Judgments and Punishments p. 181) People are destined to the same place of torment as Devil (Matthew 25:41, 46) What punishment or feeling of torment exists if unconscious or consumed into non-existence? (cf. 2 Peter 2:9, Luke16:25-26; I John 4:18)

What a terrible price to pay for rejecting the Christ and bowing to Caesar as Lord.”

The period of this torment, “for ever and ever,” is the same in duration as God, for He lives “for ever and ever.” (4:9) If there shall be total annihilation of the devil and the wicked it is not revealed.” (p. 399)

Lake of Fire and Brimstone Second Death: eternal separation not eternal non-existence. Smoke of their torment goes up forever, not the smoke of their tormentor! The spirit or soul (made in the image of God) is capable of eternal existence. Physical death and Hades not capable in God’s plan. Is it only profitable or good that you were not totally annihilated – is eternal life only about existence? Is eternal punishment only about non-existence? Was there a new revelation given about our eternal destiny between 1979 (“Total annihilation is not revealed”) and 2003?
