Do what the question asks you to do!!! “Early US foreign policy was primarily a defensive reaction to perceived or actual threats from Europe.” Assess the validity of this generalization with reference to US foreign policy on TWO major issues during the period from 1789 to 1825.

What were some major foreign policy issues from 1789 to 1825? Pres. Washington’s policy of neutrality and issues w/ Spanish Florida (Pinckney’s Treaty.) Pres. Adams’ conflict with France (Quasi-War, XYZ Affair, Franco-American Accord of 1800.) Pres. Jefferson’s negotiations w/ France (Napoleon) to secure the Louisiana Purchase. Pres. Madison’s negotiations with Great Britain and problems that led to the War of 1812 – Treaty of Ghent The Monroe Doctrine (1822)
