Year 8 Options Information 2018 Context and Process

Why Options in Year 8 - Isn’t it too early ? new GCSE Structure - No coursework Year 11 first cohort through Final exams only - 1 entry 25% More content Harder – graded 9 – 1 Focus on English, Maths, Science, History/ Geography /Language The government’s ambition is to see 90% of GCSE pupils choosing the EBacc subject combination by 2025.

What GCSES will I have to do ? Must include English Maths Science Geog or History or Language* (pick 1) PE and PSHE to be taught as part of the national curriculum but some lessons may be swapped for full EBACC* study ( pick 2 )

The Process 22 March - Detail of structure and content of the options - KB presentation 19th April - options Roadshow - all staff present Options forms - returned by 27th April Appointments with KB for further advice Timetables issued for Year 9 mid- July Opportunity to changes choices if spaces available
