Year 8 Options Information 2018 Context and Process

What makes a curriculum offer outstanding ? broad and balanced and provides a wide range of opportunities for pupils to learn. The range of subjects and courses helps pupils acquire knowledge, understanding and skills in all aspects of their education includes language, mathematical, scientific, technical, the humanities, social, physical and artistic learning. This supports pupils’ good progress. contributes well to pupils’ behaviour and welfare, including their physical, mental and personal well-being, safety and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. promotes fundamental British values.

Why Options in Year 8 - Isn’t it too early ? new GCSE Structure - No coursework Year 11 first cohort through Final exams only - 1 entry 25% More content Harder – graded 9 – 1 Focus on English, Maths, Science, History/ Geography /Language The government’s ambition is to see 90% of GCSE pupils choosing the EBacc subject combination by 2025.

What GCSES will I have to do ? Must include English Maths Science Geog or History or Language* (pick 1) PE and PSHE to be taught as part of the national curriculum but some lessons may be swapped for full EBACC* study ( pick 2 )

How Will I be graded ?
