EQ: What are the characteristics of science? What is Science? EQ: What are the characteristics of science?

Science- The study of natural events. Science is limited to what people can observe. Scientists assess the validity of observations Scientific explanations can be tested. Scientist analyze the logic behind the explanation.

Empirical Evidence- Includes observations and measurements. Includes all the data that people gather. Includes the tests to support and evaluate scientific explanations.

Traits of a Scientist- Curious Careful Logical Skeptical Objective

Curiosity- Can advance scientific knowledge.

Careful Observations- Add to our body of knowledge about the world.

Helps design and explain. Creativity- Helps design and explain.

Logic- Facilitates problem solving.

Skepticisim- Advances science and replicates experiments.

Objectivity- Keeps prior opinions out of the equation.

Pseudoscience: Is a process of investigation that resembles science. Often involves topics related to the natural world. Conclusions may be based on faulty logic. Claims cannot be proven. Investigations may lack substantial or peer based review.
