Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire 2-1 Essential Question: Imagine you are a Roman, identify and explain one of the internal problems that you believe hurt the Roman Empire the most.

Internal Weaknesses Economic Decline: less conqured land = less wealth = raised taxes Weakened agriculture: soil ruined from warfare and over use Slave Labor: discouraged improvements in technology for farming Poor education: cost of education expensive Disloyal military: soldiers loyal to generals not Rome Political corruption: politicians want financial gain not public works Lack of Patriotism: people are less willing to sacrifice for Rome Invasions: Germanic tribes attack empire
