What are our top tips for Paper 1, Q5. Tues 5th June What are our top tips for Paper 1, Q5. Paper 2: Fri 8th June Use as many descriptive techniques as you can – try to mix this up and keep your writing varied! Make sure that you PLAN and READ THROUGH your work when you are finished. Make sure that you are focusing on the purpose- read the question clearly and do not go off track. Remember the purpose is to entertain / describe – a good way to make your writing compelling would be to focus on creating a specific effect such as suspense. Avoid writing with dialogue. Remember to use the correct register, it does not need to be FORMAL (like a letter), however you should try to use ambitious vocabulary. Think about the narrative voice. How might writing in the first person make your writing more effective and convincing? Make sure that you vary your sentences types and lengths in order to create an effect or add detail. Level 5 – write descriptively throughout your writing. Level 6 and 7 – consistently write descriptively to create a particular effect.
