2. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Exam: Tuesday 5th June am.
- 1 hour and 45 minutes long.
- 5 questions.
- 80 marks -> 50% of the final grade.
- Mock exam for questions 1-4 on Tuesday 21st November.
- Graded using the new 1-9 system.
- Mock papers and other resources are available on the English curriculum website for additional study at home.

3. Question One
This question assesses the student’s ability to identify and interpret explicit and implicit information and ideas.
- 4 marks
- 5 minutes
Facts must be taken from the correct lines.
Facts must have enough detail and must not be too obvious.
Look at the traps/errors that can be made.
Facts can be copied but not huge chunks of the text.
Facts cannot be too similar to one another.

4. Question Two
This question assesses Language ie: Words / Phrases / Language Features /Language Techniques / Sentence Forms.

- 10 minutes
- 3 to 4 paragraphs
Only 8 more words between 1 and 2 yet another mark picked up!

5. Question Three
This question assesses how the writer has structured a text i.e. beginnings / endings / perspective shifts / topic changes / cohesion.
- 8 marks
- 10 minutes
- 3 to 4 paragraphs
Only 24 more words between answer 1 and 2 yet at least two marks better.

6. Question Four
This question assesses the student’s ability to evaluate texts critically and support this with appropriate textual references.
- 20 marks
- 25 minutes
- 4 to 5 paragraphs
Must have language analysis! Be careful not to misread! Better to stick with one side.

7. Question Five
This question assesses the ability to communicate effectively and imaginatively, adapt tone, style and register for different forms, purposes and audiences.

- 24 marks for Content and Organisation / 16 marks for Accuracy (Spelling / Punctuation)
