Texas Woman’s University We know education can positively impact the lives of Texans particularly students who experience foster care We began a pilot program in 2012-2013 funded by a $100,000 grant from the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation
Program Outcomes Four students have graduate and 100% have pursued graduate school Students reported a sense of community and identity Retention rate is 65% after three years Hosted over 300 foster youth who were currently in high school
Successful Program Activities Helping students get DL Counseling services outside TWU Frequently scheduled career counseling appointments Goal setting 1 on 1 mentoring and coaching in conjunction with group meetings
Programs Take Time and Energy Encourage state mandated contact person at each institution to become involved State network of best practices Every group of students, no matter how small, deserves focused care CARE office
