"What's wrong with the world. " a newspaper editorial once asked. G. K "What's wrong with the world?" a newspaper editorial once asked. G.K. Chesterton wrote in reply, "I am."

What is the greatest problem facing humanity What is the greatest problem facing humanity? Are you part of the problem?

It’s not the war in Iraq.

It’s not terrorism.

It’s not abortion.

It’s not immoral lifestyles.

It’s not health issues

It’s not world hunger.

The greatest problem facing humanity is the world is not right with God.

Hebrews 10:30-31 God has warned us that he’ll hold us to account and make us pay. He was quite explicit: “Vengeance is mine, and I won’t overlook a thing” and “God will judge his people.” Nobody’s getting by with anything, believe me.

What is a priest?

The Latin word for priest is “pontifex,” which means bridge builder.

We will only appreciate our need for a high priest to the degree that we realize how holy and unapproachable God is and how sinful and defiled we are.

Hebrews 5:8-10 8 Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. 9 In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. 10 And God designated him to be a High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Genesis 14:17-20 (NLT) 17 After Abram returned from his victory over Kedorlaomer and all his allies, the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). 18 And Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought Abram some bread and wine. 19 Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing: “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. 20 And blessed be God Most High, who has defeated your enemies for you.”

Numbers 8:23-26 23-26 God spoke to Moses: “These are your instructions regarding the Levites: At the age of twenty-five they will join the workforce in the Tent of Meeting; at the age of fifty they must retire from the work. They can assist their brothers in the tasks in the Tent of Meeting, but they are not permitted to do the actual work themselves. These are the ground rules for the work of the Levites.”

Isaiah 32:17 (VOICE) 17 Then righteousness will yield peace, and the quiet and confidence that attend righteousness will be present forever.

Hebrews 7:23-25 23 There were many priests under the old system, for death prevented them from remaining in office. 24 But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. 25 Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.

Hebrews 10:11-14 11 Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. 12 But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 13 There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. 14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.

Psalm 110:4 (NLT) 4 The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

God the Father ordains the priesthood for our salvation. It is his idea. He sends the priest, His own Son, whom He loves infinitely. All this is the love of God rescuing us from the wrath of God, in such a way that the justice of God is vindicated and the glory of God is exalted.
