1 Wisdom From God Psalm 132: Bless Us In Zion

2 An Entreaty For God To Remember Us
There are some indisputable truths about God One is that He never forgets a promise or a covenant. Even so, we should entreat Him in prayer to remember us and our plight as we live in this fallen earth. God invites us to petition heaven and promises to bless us if we remain faithful to Him.

3 The God Who Remembers Verse 1 – “Remember, O Lord, on David’s behalf, all his affliction….” The pilgrims sang this song by way of remembrance of the great kingdom under David. David loved and revered God. He was, therefore, mocked and hated.

4 Remember Your Promises!
The song was by way of entreating God to remember His promises through David – promises to make Israel great and provide the Messiah. They bring to mind the fact that we serve a God who keeps His promises.

5 We Serve The God Who Remembers
Genesis 8:1 – “But God remembered Noah and all the beists and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the water subsided. Genesis 19:29 – “Thus it came about, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow….”

6 …God remembers… Genesis 30:22 – “Then God remembered Rachel, and God gave heed to her and opened her womb.” 1 Samuel 1:19 – “Then they arose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord, and returned again to their house in Ramah. And Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her.”

7 Remember David And His Afflictions
Verses 2-5 Who swore to build a house for the Lord Who refused to rest until he could Though he was prevented by God from doing so, he still collected all the wealth and construction materials to make it happen.

8 Israel Pleads With God To Remember
Verses 7-8 – “Let us go into His dwelling place; let us worship at His footstool. Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.” --Going to Zion --Inviting God to meet them there --Asking Him to come with the ark of His strength – and invitation for deliverance. Asking Him to remember them – His people

9 Remember Us As Your Children
Acts 4:29-30 – “And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and grant that Your bond-servants may speak Your word with all confidence, while You extend Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”

10 Send Your Messiah Verse 10: For the sake of David Your servant, do not turn away the face of Your anointed.” Call for God to deliver them by sending the promised Messiah.

11 God’s Promise and Our Commitment
Verse 11 – “The Lord has sworn to David a truth from which He will not turn back; ‘Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne.” Acts 2:30 – “And so, because he was a prophet and knew that God had swon to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne….” David understood God was sending the Messiah.

12 The Provisional Promise
Verse 12 – “If your sons will keep My covenant and My testimony which I will teach them, their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever.” They did not keep covenant and their sons ceased holding the throne. God will not continue to keep covenant with adulterers/idolaters.

13 Zion Above and Zion Below
Verses – “For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation. This is My resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread.” These are promises God makes for those who remain faithful on earth.”

14 Earth Is Only Temporary
We need to remember, though, that our greater desire is for eternity with God in heaven. “Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her godly ones will sing aloud for joy.” These are blessings pertaining to heaven and eternity.

15 Our Victory Is In Jesus Verses – “There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed. His enemies I will clothe with shame, but upon himself his crown shall shine.” 1 John 5:4 – For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.

16 His Enemies Shamed, His Crown Shining
Hebrews 10:13 We’re assured that Jesus offered Himself as sacrifice for sins once for all time. He sat down until the end of time. He’s waiting until His enemies become a footstool for His feet.

17 Our Shining Crown Revelation 2:10 – “…Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
