By the end of this lesson… You will have shown an understanding of how to write a newspaper article; You will be able to use Standard English in your story.

Can you match the headlines to the story? A Scientist has been researching pyramids. He has discovered a pyramid with a magical entrance. Temperatures today will not rise above 12oC, which is below average for June. There is a possibility of rain and gusts of wind. A peacock has been seen flying over Walstead Road. It was reported missing from the zoo last week. It created a lot of excitement around Newlands Spring area. Where is the Summer? Peacock excitement Magic Pyramid!

What do these words mean? Investigate With the person next to you discuss what you think these words mean. You have 3 minutes. Witness Source Headline Report Opinion

Let’s read a newspaper article. Can you identify the headline? Can you list a witness or a source? What is being investigated? Can you find any facts or opinions in the story?

The X Factor Svengali told how he had been there for his fellow judge as her three-and-a-half year marriage has fallen into crisis. You have 10 minutes to plan your story Main ideas: This tells the reader what actually happened. Remember to use facts, quotes and eyewitness accounts Conclusion: What could happen now?

Now that you have spent time planning your story it is time to write it. You are aiming to write at least two pages of your exercise book. You have 20 minutes to write your story. Be prepared to feedback your story to the rest of the class.
