INFORMATION He was born September 30, 1928. He died on July 2, 2016 he was 87. It’s said that when he was 15 he and his family were deported to Auschwitz. His mother and a sister died, two big sisters survived and him and his father were transported to Buchenwald where his dad died shortly after. Became a journalist after the war and persuaded to write his experiences about the death camps. He became a writer of many books, orator, activist, and teacher. He had one son Elisha.

WRITING CAREER Wiesel went on to write many books, including the novels Town of Luck (1962), The Gates of the Forest (1966) and The Oath (1973), and such nonfiction works as Souls on Fire: Portraits and Legends of Hasidic Masters (1982) and the memoir All Rivers Run to the Sea (1995) Books: Night(1960) Dawn

CONTROVERSY The controversy around Eliezer Wiesel is if he really was taken to Auschwitz and was brought to any of the camps. There is a guy named Gruner who claims he’s an imposter. Gruner says Elie Wiesel assumed ownership of a novel by Lazar Wiesel who Gruner knew personally\ And the man “Elie” identified himself as looks way older than 17. Gruner made a video and even told his story and how he and Lazar became good friends . Gruner says Elie pretended to be Lazar when they met up after the war, and he didn’t have the same tattoo A-7713 because he refused to show it to him.

ACCOLADES n 1978, Wiesel was appointed chair of the President's Commission on the Holocaust by President Jimmy Carter. He was honored across the world with a number of awards, including the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom and the French Legion of Honor's Grand Croix. Won Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 Congessional Gold Medal National Humanities Medal, Lifetime Literary Achievement award, Prix Medicis, and National Jewish Book Award for Modern Jewish Thought & Experience
