Vacuous vakyəwəs Adjective Other forms of the word: vacuously (adverb) vacuousness (noun) Definition: having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence; stupid Example: The girl grew tired of the vacuous conversation topics at the party. A good way to remember: Patrick from SpongeBob is a vacuous character.

Veracious vəˈrāSHəs adjective Other forms of the word: veraciously (adverb) veraciousness (noun) Definition: habitually speaking the truth; sincere; honest. Example: Abraham Lincoln was portrayed as being a veracious person. A good way to remember: Think of “Honest Abe” when you think of veracious.

Supercilious so͞opərˈsilēəs adjective Other forms of the word: superciliously (adverb) superciliousness (noun) Definition: behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others; conceited; arrogant Example: The supercilious woman demands special treatment for being pretty A good way to remember: When you see the word supercilious think of “superior”

Meretricious merəˈtriSHəs adjective Other forms of the word: meretriciously (adverb) meretriciousness (noun) Definition: Appealing in a cheap or showy manner. Example: The girl thought her outfit was flattering, when in actuality it was meretricious. A good way to remember: “mere” in “Meretricious” means something is simple and plain, which is the opposite of the definition of “meretricious”

Surreptitious sərəpˈtiSHəs adjective Other forms of the word: surreptitiously (adverb) Definition: kept secret, esp. because it would not be approved of; secretive Example: The were able to obtain surreptitious access to government files by themselves. A good way to remember: “Secret” and “Surreptitious” both begin with and “S”
