5 So… TOLD SAID When you mention the listener (a noun or pronoun) You do not mention the listener.

6 E x a m p l e s :  You said something : Jhon said (that) he was tired.  You told someone something : Jhon told Jane (that) he was tired.

7 “Told” Personal Object “Told” We usually use “told” with a personal object – me, you, him, her, them, us (the person that we are speaking to): e.g.: She told me that she loved John. He told everybody that he had to leave.

8 “Said” We usually use “said” without a personal object: e.g.: He said that he had to leave. She said that she loved John.
