Say “no” to smoking

Turn to workbook p. 8. Without discussion, look at the pictures on the page and guess how many of those people are smokers. On the cigarette labeled “Guess,” shade the number of smokers you guessed. If you think 1 out of 8 people smoke, shade the cigarette up to the line “1.” If you think everybody smokes, shade in the whole cigarette. Only two out of 8 people smoke. That’s less than ¼ of all Americans. That certainly isn’t everybody!

Who do you think the tobacco advertisers are aiming their ads at? KIDS! They are aiming at non-smokers! The biggest group of non-smokers is people your age! The tobacco advertisers want to influence your choices.
