What is Internal Verification? Internal Verification is an approach to quality assurance based on peer support and review that enables you to integrate quality into internal assessment

Within a centre there will be an ; Assessor who marks internal assessments for Units and Courses Internal Verifier who can be a teacher who Supports other teachers in understanding and applying National Standards checks assessment approaches samples assessment judgements

Who takes the role of Internal Verifier ? Responsibility may be allocated to a named member of staff All members of staff in a department could take responsibility for assessing and internally verifying A network approach across different schools/centres could be more appropriate

Internal Verification in Action Tasks may include ; Support to staff at pre delivery stage Verifying centre devised assessments Initiating standardisation activities – see IV : A Guide for Centres offering SQA qualifications On going support throughout delivery Sampling of candidate evidence Post delivery support

What evidence is required for IV Information about how your IV system works- there is no set model Evidence of sampling and confirmation of results by the IV e.g. on Candidate Assessment Record A centre can use their own recording sheet OR Use exemplar in IVToolkit@sqa.org.uk

Internal Verification No evidence of IV will not affect an Accepted Outcome If no evidence is submitted from a centre a verification report will say ‘ Due to lack of evidence ,it is not possible to provide comment on it’s effectiveness. Centre staff are reminded that all centres offering SQA qualifications must have an effective quality assurance system which ensures that all candidates are assessed accurately, fairly and consistently to national standards ‘
