3 What is internal verification and how can it help you?
An internal verification system helps ensure that all assessments being offered are valid reliable, practicable, equitable and fair — and helps assessors to apply the standards of assessment uniformly and consistently. 

4 The Benefits of Internal Verification
helps to ensure that all assessors understand national standards and can apply them facilitates collaboration between assessors helps to protect assessors against challenges to professional assessment judgements supports preparation for successful external verification

5 The Role of the Internal Verifier
supports assessors in understanding and applying national standards collaborates with assessors and other internal verifiers to ensure that assessment approaches are fit-for-purpose (before prior verification by SQA) samples the assessment judgements of assessors to ensure that they are valid and reliable reflects on assessment processes and practice and encourages continuous improvements

6 Stages of Internal Verification
Internal verification is a continuous process, but can be divided into three separate stages: Pre-delivery stage (PLAN) During delivery stage (DO) Post-delivery stage (REVIEW)

7 Pre-delivery stage (Plan)
This includes: planning the management and coordination of internal assessment activities planning the management and coordination of internal verification activities creating and managing standardisation activities agreeing on assessment approaches preparing learners

8 During delivery stage (Do)
This includes: observing assessment practice sampling of candidates’ assessed work feedback by internal verifiers to assessors confirmation of results supporting assessors, responding to queries

9 Post-delivery stage (Review)
This includes: reflecting on Pre and During phases considering feedback from external verification agreeing and planning any necessary changes in assessment approach for the future agreeing and planning any further standardisation activities to address any issues identified agreeing and planning any changes to internal verification processes for the future
