Interactions of Ecosystems

Habitat The place where an organism lives Niche The interactions of a species (what it eats, what eats it, and how it behaves)

Producer (Autotroph) Organisms that make their own food . Typically through photosynthesis.

Types of consumers: Herbivore – eats only plants or other producers Carnivore – eats only other consumers

Omnivore – eats both producers and consumers Scavenger/Decomposer – feed on the remains of other, dead or decaying organisms

Cont’d Food Chains Show the feeding relationship among species and how energy is passed

Cont’d Food Web Series of interconnecting food chains within a community Consumers feed on many different species Any change (natural or human actions) to an ecosystem can affect a food web

Sunlight Direction arrow is pointing indicates the flow of energy passed on.
