Student Name English IV 3A Teacher Topic: Restoring a 66’ Chevrolet

Not many people think restoring an old truck is that hard. Thesis statement: Not many people think restoring an old truck is that hard.

In the beginning: This is what the outside of the truck looked like before any body work was done to it. This is what the inside of the truck looked like before any work was done. This is another look of the inside, but only the dash.  When the gas tank was taken out of the cab and the hole was welded shut.

This is when the hole  where the chrome strips on the outside of the truck were welded shut. This picture shows where  the holes were welded shut. The truck was taken to  Brezeale’s Sandblasting in Easley, seeing that we did not have a machine to do this job. After the truck was  sandblasted, we picked it up and took it back home.

 This picture shows the side of the truck after it was sandblasted  This picture shows the side of the truck after it was sandblasted.  These pictures show when the bed was taken off of the frame to be worked on separately.  This is when the hood was disassembled from the front of the truck to be worked on separately.

These pictures show when the windows and engine were tapped over with newspaper. This was done to prevent the windows and engine from getting primed during the first priming session.

These pictures show how the engine and transmission was taken out of the truck to be rebuilt.

The first two pictures show when the rocker panel was taken off and a new one was put on. The next two show some more body work.

These pictures show the process of sanding down the cab and doors the be primed again and ready to paint.

This was the process of putting in the weather strips, sanding and painting the hood and fender. Then it was replaced back onto the truck.

These pictures show the process of painting and sanding the bed to be replaced back onto the frame of the truck. The tailgate was done separately.

In the end: After the bed was painted and reassembled, the carpet, door panels, bench seat and fuel tank were replaced. New rims and wheels were assembled.

My reflection: I had the best experience doing this project that I have had in a while. Growing up seeing this truck sit in the yard and wondering if it would ever be fixed made me want to fix it myself. I did my research paper on how to restore a ‘66 Chevrolet truck. I found out that it would be expensive and time consuming. Once I put forth the effort I did find out that it was time consuming as well as stressful. Some of the parts we order wouldn’t fit and we had to send them back and order new ones and then wait for them to come in. Anytime something like that happened we would always get behind. I kept head strong and prayed for the best.
