WHAT’S NOT NEW AAUW Board of Directors: still 15 members, still come from the membership, still committed and passionate about AAUW Still a great staff: excited to be there, committed to the mission, high level STILL CALL OR EMAIL CONNECT FIRST: 800/326-AAUW or CONNECT@AAUW.ORG

NEW AAUW STRATEGIC PLAN Who developed the plan? Criteria: Strengths: what does AAUW do better than the competition? Weaknesses: What does AAUW need to improve on? Opportunities: What external trends could lead to increased success and engagement? Threats: What are the advantages competitors have over AAUW?

STRATEGIC PLAN PILLARS EDUCATION & TRAINING ECONOMIC SECURITY LEADERSHIP GOVERNANCE & SUSTAINABILITY The key is interrelationship: Education & Training leads directly into our Economic Security, leading right into Leadership. And all three require good Governance & Sustainability.

EDUCATION & TRAINING Goal A: Champion equal access to all levels and fields of education. Goal B: Ensure education at every level is free from sex discrimination.

ECONOMIC SECURITY Goal A: Achieve pay equity by 2030. Train 10 million women in salary negotiations by 2022 Goal B: Create inclusive career pathways for women, free of systemic barriers and biases, to attain economic security. Goal C: Deepen women’s retirement security and quality of life.

GOVERNANCE & SUSTAINABILITY Goal A: Implement best practices in governance, inclusion, and organizational functioning. Goal B: Enhance financial sustainability by increasing and diversifying revenue.

LEADERSHIP Goal A: Bolster the participation of girls and women in leadership roles throughout their lives. Goal B: Advance the number of women in leadership, particularly in education and non-profit organizations.

IMPLEMENTING THE PLAN Can’t take on every goal at the same time Won’t ignore other pillars but won’t take on efforts that we can’t afford or don’t have the capacity to accomplish Already focusing on some of the Economic Security goals, including work to train 10 million women in salary negotiation by 2022. Want each state/branch to help reach that goal Why StartSmart/WorkSmart? Unique AAUW niche.

WHERE DOES MONEY COME FROM? 15% member dues (branch, state, and national members) 40% contributions (members, non-member supporters, corporations, foundations, planned gifts, etc.) 41% investment income 4% income from StartSmart/WorkSmart licenses, NCCWSL, and Shop AAUW 2% rent from leasing out some of the offices on AAUW’s 3 floors

WHAT ISN’T NEW Education and training Economic security Leadership All of these are AAUW’s historical priority areas. Since our founding, education has been the core focus: from preschool to postgrad, vocational, lifelong learning, and career development to help women thrive.

WHAT STAYS THE SAME MISSION: To advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy VISION: Equity for all VALUES: Nonpartisan Fact-based Integrity Inclusion
